Afrigo Band and Bakayimbira to switch roles in AIDS day stage drama

For the first time ever, the two longest-serving Ugandan entertainment groups will be on stage in a fascinating production.

Afrigo band and Bakayimbira Dramactors will be tussling it out on World Aids Day, December 1, 2019.

Charles Ssenkubuge the head of the Bakayimbira Dramactors tells Sqoop that; the reason the two iconic outfits decided to stage that the show on World Aids Day is simply to thank God for having kept them alive and on the scene, despite the passing on of some of their team members.

“We’ve been around for really long, and on this day we shall be asking ourselves, how we have managed to keep alive, after our colleagues within and from other groups have passed on,” he says.

He adds that; this will be the first experience of its kind, seeing that they’ll switch roles, with the actors singing, and the singers acting.

“Have you ever seen Mr. Moses Matovu act? Now he will be acting, while Andrew Benon Kibuuka will be singing.”

Afrigo which has been in existence for the past 40 years, has since lost some of its members in Charles Ssekyanzi, Billy Mutebi, Tony Ssengo, Dede Majoro, Godfrey Mwambala, while Bakayimbira in 39, lost Mike Kakande, Rehema Nassali, Fred Teefe, and others.

Preparations are underway, and rehearsals will kick off soon, in preparation for the show, which will happen at Gabba beach.
