Uganda to participate in Miss International for the first time

Evelyn Namatovu, 23, will be representing Uganda at the Miss International finale on November 12, in Tokyo, Japan, a considerable milestone for the Uganda, taking part for the first time.

The announcement was made during a media launch of Miss International Uganda 2019/20 held on September 18 at The Athena hotel in Bugolobi, a city suburb.

“Uganda will be participating for the first time, this year, at the Miss International beauty pageant. And, Namatovu will be representing us,” said Monica Akech, the national coordinator at Miss International Uganda at the launch.

Namatovu, who dubs as Miss International Uganda 2019/20 was selected as Uganda’s representative after a vigorous online casting (interviewing) process held in August.

“Among all the girls we interviewed, the way Namatovu responded to the questions was very impressive. And, it was for this reason we chose her,” Akech says.

The other qualifications the organisers considered included height measurements where 5”5 is the minimum height requirement for contestants. Also, they are expected to between 18 and 27 years.

Ayub Kato, international director at Miss International Uganda says this is one of the platforms Uganda can also utilise to shine on the world stage.

“We are rooting for Evelyn and doing all the necessary preparations to ensure she is fully ready for the finale on November 12, at Tokyo,” Kato says.

Uganda will be competing for the overall world title with representatives of other countries across the world.

The pageant aims at widening the circle of goodwill activities of each country’s representative. Participants also have an opportunity to improve their inner selves through proactively contributing to the international community and international exchanges.
