The comedy industry in Uganda is on a steady raise as we have seen comedians grow from being just curtain raisers at events to hosting their own shows. Last evening comedian Patrick Indringi known to many as Salvador launched his comedy show dubbed ‘Just Comedy’ at Kingdom Kampala and it was success as the show did not only get a huge crowd but also saw comedians at their best.

The show kicked off at exactly 8:30pm with Happy Kyazze on the Saxophone doing covers and a few of his songs off his latest album like ‘so sweet (trust in Jesus)’, ‘Ruhanga’ as the crowd cheered on.

Kenneth Mugabi then took to stage and he serenaded the crowd with his love ballads off “The Ugandan” album. It was after Mugabi’s performance that the host of the night, the self-proclaimed man from Ombokolo took to stage. He started by thanking the crowd for coming through as he couldn’t believe that he had filled the 10th floor on Kingdom hall.

He went straight into the jokes as he joked about his father in law, his wife’s love for sex, different tribes among other things. Though most of the comedians cracked jokes they have cracked before, they seemed new to the crowd. Uncle Mark was the first on stage and with all his jokes being old he managed to make the crowd laugh. 2mbiri, Agnes Akite, Smart Ayokya Yokya , Omukebete, Ronnie McVex and Emmah Napoleone were some of the acts that kept the crowd laughing all through the night.

Several interludes where at the glance that saw appearances from Ms Enid Mirembe who took to stage to call out fans to attend her upcoming Rolex festival and Business man Innocent Nahabwe to say a word or two about his book. In a segment that was introduced, the hosts will be having a one on one session with a popular person and the first guest was the Miss Uganda C.E.O Ms Brenda Nanyonjo.

Towards the peak of the show, Salvador announced that it was his wife, Daphine Frankstock’s birthday and he asked afro-soul Singer Kenneth Mugabi, Happy Kyazze and gospel singer Levixone to come and sing for her.

All the days’ performance’s where crowned by celebrated Kenya’s Eric Omondi who had performed at Comedy Store the previous week so many were skeptical about him pulling this performance off. Well Omomdi performed to expectations and left the crowd in stitches. He joked about Kenyan presidents, how he started comedy at just five years, Ugandan artistes and their unnecessarily energetic performances among other things.

The biggest joked of the night was when he joked about Diamond undressing while performing and said we ought to stop him before he goes too far. Omondi had no problem imitating the Tanzanian singer as he asked the DJ to play three of Diamonds songs so he can show us how he does it.
