The gospel music genre is on the rise in Uganda. We have seen gospel artistes fill up venues during their concerts. Gospel tracks are now topping charts in the industry and gospel music events have also started penetrating thanks to Shadrack Kuteesa, who has spearheaded this cause through an event dubbed Fuse that happened last Friday evening at the Square.

This was an-all Christian event headlined by Christian musicians and deejays. It saw artistes like Lyrical Michael, Barna, 1 Der Jr and Dj Twonjex as the entertainers of the moment. This was a platform given to them, first for exposure and then to prove to the rest of the artistes that gospel musicians are equally talented.

At the beginning of the show, the attendance was a bit worrying to the point that the organizers pushed their programme ahead by a few hours. The show that was supposed to start at 5pm and end by 8pm instead kicked off at 7pm and went on until midnight and by that time, the crowd was massive.

It started with both audio and video mixing by deejay Nimso and Litboy after which they started playing cyphers, which is a gathering of rappers who jam musically. This impressed the crowd as they kept on cheering to those they believed did it well.

Performances started after an hour with Gagamago, Phelix the rapper, Race-T, Nimson and Leeroy warming up the stage for the main artistes. Dj Twanjox was the first to step up on the stage, teasing the crowd with jams as the band members; Timothy on the keyboard and Josh on the drums. The trio, Lyrical Michael, Barna and 1 Der Jr joined them later, performing joint tracks then later doing five songs each. Being Hip Hop musicians, there was of freestyling, rapping and some preaching at the event. 1 Der Jr stole the show when he free styled on Sean Pauls’ ‘Boasty song’ and Wizkid’s ‘Fever’.

Before they concluded the show, they invited every rapper in the audience to join them on the stage and each grabbed the microphone and exhibited what they are best at.
