As it is the norm, every year the African Report every year releases a list of the 100 most influential Africans. The list usually has people from all fields such as art, politics, business, technology and activism.
And of course, through the years, this list tends to reflect on the events that have shaped African news through a calendar year.
In the top ten for instance, Nigerian business magnet and the richest blackman Aliko Dangote takes the top spot.
Dangote GCON is a Nigerian business magnate, investor, and owner of the Dangote Group, which has interests in commodities in Nigeria and other African countries. As of March 2019, he had an estimated net worth of US$10.6 billion.
Others in the top ten include technology entrepreneur Elon Musk, Chimamanda Ngozi, Trevor Noah and Davido.
Winnie Byanyima is the highest ranked Ugandan at twenty. The politician and diplomat is defined as one that has weathered a storm of scandals that hit the aid sector in 2018. Byanyima is Executive Director of Oxfam International. She is a leader on women’s rights, democratic governance and peace building. She served eleven years in the Ugandan Parliament, and has served at the African Union Commission and as Director of Gender and Development at the United Nations Development Program.
Academician and author Mahmood Mamdani is the other Ugandan on the list at eighty, the provocative scholar famous for his book Citizen and Subject provides critical thinking on different topics.
Singer turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine is number 92 on the list. He is praised for rallying the youth with his People Power message which has in turn made him a threat to the regime.
Other people on the list include Egyptian footballer and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, Kenyan US based actress Lupita Nyongo, Ghanian/Sierra Leone actor Idris Elba, Nigerian film producer Genevive Nnaji as well as businessman Tony Elomelu.
