Jaguar detained after threatening Ugandans

Charles Njagua Kanyi aka Jaguar

Charles Njagua Kanyi aka Jaguar, a musician who is also a Member of Parliament for Starehe has been in Uganda a couple of times. The last time he was here, he had been booked by Alex Muhangi to perform at his comedy store gig. A year back, he came for the burial of musician Mowzey Radio but we don’t know where his hatred for Uganda came from.

Two days back, he was seen trekking on the streets of Nairobi visiting traders along Kirinyaga Road condemning foreigners from running businesses in Nairobi. “Ugandans and Tanzanians have taken over our businesses… Now we are saying enough is enough. If a 24-hour ultimatum is not enough for them to be deported, we will remove them and we’ll beat them up and we will not fear anyone,” said Jaguar.

These statements however got him in trouble as was arrested on Tuesday and detained at the Kileleshwa police station where he will to spend more five days. The legislator was arrested on Tuesday while leaving Kenya Parliament. Nairobi County Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) opened an Occurrence Book (OB) at Kileleshwa police station in relation to the remarks the first-term lawmaker made.

Prosecution had sought to have Jaguar detained for 14 days at the Kamukunji Police Station to allow them finalise their investigations. Jaguar, who was before Kenya Senior Resident Magistrate Sinkyani Tobiko, was charged with making alleged insightful remarks against foreign traders. According to a Kenya TV station Jaguar was allegedly planning to mobilise gangs to invade private property and attack foreign nationals residing in Kenya.

Kenya’s detectives further revealed that they have so far seized the MP’s mobile phone which is yet to be forensically examined.
