KAMPALA. Gospel singer Levixone and rapper Navio excited hundreds of teenagers that turned up for the inaugural Girls’ Festival at Lugogo Hockey Grounds as a way of marking International Women’s Day.
Levixone who stepped on stage at a quarter past 4pm kick started his performance with Ponya and climaxed with crowd’s most favorite, Turn the replay. Through his performance, Levixone urged students to live a prayerful life and remain focused.
“When you trust God, you will never be disappointed. Put your problems before God. Do not be distracted,” Levixone said.
Girls’ Festival was launched by youth led non-governmental organization, Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU). The event brought together young people, artistes, women leaders, partners, policy makers and gender equality advocates to celebrate girl and women empowerment under the theme, “Gains from Equality”.
Rapper Navio set the stage ablaze with his old songs such as Ngalo backed up by a live band and cultural instruments. Other musicians that put up good performances included Geosteady and The Ghetto Kids.
RAHU founder Humphrey Nabimanya, commended the attendees for the positive strides made towards women and girl empowerment. Nabimanya applauded the women and teenagers that graced the event purposely to celebrate the key milestones achieved in empowering young women and girls.
Geosteady who is RAHU’s cultural icon vowed to continue to champion gender equality, both as an objective and a driver of sustainable development. He applauded RAHU for whatever has been done and achieved in the movement to empower women and girls.
“We have seen, overtime, that investing in girls and women has seen transformation changes, not just in their own lives but for their families, communities and the economy. Gender equality should remain our shared value and common goal in all areas,” Geosteady said.
