Idris Elba
People Magazine has named Idris Elba ‘sexiest man alive’ in the year 2018, and the British actor says the title has boosted his ego.
The actor, whose fans are campaigning to replace David Craig as James Bond when he steps down from the franchise, says he could not believe it when People magazine informed him of his new title.
“I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really?’” he says in an interview with PEOPLE. “Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’ But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure.”
In a tweet this morning he thanked his fans for voting for him.
“Who’d have thought it! Thank you @people & all the fans for naming me #SexiestManAlive. I’m honoured & thankful. What’s even more important is your vote in the midterm elections. Your vote can make a difference!”
Idrissa Akuna Elba is a British actor, producer, musician and DJ known for playing drug trafficker Stringer Bell on the HBO series The Wire, DCI John Luther on the BBC One series Luther and Nelson Mandela in the biographical film Mandela.
