Bobi Wine voters erupt in euphoria after MP’s return

The Magere residential neighbourhood of MP Bobi Wine in Wakiso District has erupted in celebrations following news of his landing at Entebbe International Airport, reports Alex Esagala.

Residents, some wearing red bandanas and fez caps and trumpeting, are pouring on dirt roads singing revolutionary songs and bellowing out pro-Bobi slogans.

Many are punching in the air. The red fez cap, which has become a signature wear to symbolise opposition, gained political currency during the chaotic amendment of the Constitution to remove presidential age limit.

And Bobi Wine, an Independent MP, strengthened his political stand at the time by opposing scrapping of the upper presidential age cap. He was on August 13 arrested in Arua where he had travelled to drum up last-minute support for Independent candidate and eventual winner Kassiano Wadri.

Bobi alleged that soldiers tortured him while in custody, and he had to fly out to the United States for specialised medical care.

He has since never been to his constituency and news that he is finally heading there has, according to our Reporter, triggered celebrations momentarily.
