Ethics and Integrity Minister Fr Simon Lokodo has justified his position on the cancellation of the MTN Nyege Nyege Festival, which is scheduled for September 6th to 9th.

Addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre this evening, Lokodo said the activity will be covered by alcohol, drugs and toxicants not accepted by this country.

“There will be nudity and sexuality done at any time of the hour. There will be open sex. The very name of the festival is provocative. It means “sex, sex” or urge for sex. We have been informed it’s taking place near Owen Fall’s Dam. This brings uncertainty and fear,” he said.

“We have information that LGBTI will be part of this event. MTN Nyege Nyege will not be accepted because these people will be openly saying such statuses. This year, it will not take place,” he added.

“I wanted Nyege Nyege cancelled last year but they escaped. Ministry Foreign Affairs is not aware of their activities and this should be a security issue. It is the organisers of Nyege Nyege Festival that didn’t come to us for clarification.”

“Let foreigners not come to Uganda for sex. If you are coming for sexual reasons worse still homosexuality and LGBTQ, stay away. On that basis, #MTNNyegeNyege is cancelled. This event called MTN Nyege Ngege is off. It won’t happen in 2018.”
