Media to rehearse coverage of Ramaphosa- Mbabazi traditional marriage

The Couple, Andile ramaphosa and his wife to be Bridget Birungi

Andile Ramaphosa, the son of South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa will back to Uganda this weekend, to officially collect his wife-to-be Ms Bridget Birungi Rwakairu, a niece to former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi.

The Kuhingira, a traditional Ankole people marriage will take place at Amama Mbabazi’s residence in Kololo.

The event will be open to media, however the media won’t just turn up like they do for other events.

Mbabazi’s spokesperson Maggie Lukowe says media will have a dry run this Thursday to guide journalists on how to cover the marriage ceremony.

A dry run is a rehearsal of a performance or procedure before the real one.

“We shall have a technical dry run for all media covering the Ramaphosa Kuhingira this Thursday 2 Aug at the Mbabazi residence starting at 3.00pm. Cameramen & Photographers are encouraged not to miss. Thanks. Maggie,” a message she sent out to journalists reads.

When contacted, Lubowe further explained that during the rehearsal, journalists would be shown their limits, and areas within which they are expected to operate.

“The dry run is about journalists getting accreditation to cover the event. There will be a media center for journalists to file their stories as events unfold,” she said in a phone interview with this reporter.

“During the dry run, journalists will be shown their limits, areas within which they are expected to operate.”

135 guests who include relatives, friends and in-laws have already arrived at Kololo.

“Those already in the country are touring various parts of the country and the big man himself President Cyril Ramaphosa will be jetting in on Friday.”

Lubowe added that President Museveni will attend the ceremony, as well as a few other unnamed heads of state to be revealed on Thursday plus other high profile personalities.
