Museveni ‘slays’ in new jacket, a gift from Ethiopian Prime minister

It’s not unusual that someone will post on social media about a gift they have received from a friend or family member.

On Tuesday evening, President Museveni was not an exception. Just hours after he reiterated (during slain Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga’s burial) that he would control social media usage through taxation as one of the ways for government to raise revenue as well as curtail gossip by Ugandans, an excited Museveni posted a photo of him trying on a jacket, a gift he says he received from Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed Ali.

In the photo, Abiy is seen adjusting Museveni’s new tricolored jacket as he tries it on.

“Before his departure from Uganda, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and I exchanged gifts at State House Entebbe. I thank him for the colorful jacket. I also thank him for honouring my invitation and our countries will continue to strengthen our political-economic ties,” read Mr Museveni’s message accompanying the photo.

It’s not clear what Mr Museveni gave Mr Abiy in exchange for the new jacket.

However, during Heroes Day celebrations in Kakumiro District, Mr Museveni honoured Mr Abiy with the Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa medal, Uganda’s highest accolade given to a head of state.

The only other African leader to be conferred this honour is Equatorial Guinea president, Teodoro Obiang Mbasogo.

Could the new jacket be in exchange for the honour? Your guess is as good as ours.

All we can say is that our president looks smart in it, doesn’t he?
