Ghetto Kids bring out the best in Uganda Entertainment Awards

When the Triplets ghetto kids were announced the winners of the best dance group in the just concluded Uganda Entertainment Awards last weekend, they we welcomed by a standing ovation from the audience.

As they approached the stage to pick their award, Edrisa Musuuza, known professionally by his stage name Eddy Kenzo joined them and together, they danced to ‘Sitya loss’ as part of the celebrations. The crowd seemed to enjoy every bit of it and more was yet to come as the Ugandan representatives at this year’s BET were called back on stage for a performance.

They didn’t disappoint as they showed maturity, experience and composure with their moves. Even the youngest in the group excited the crowd by the way they wiggled their waists and this was perhaps the highlight of the evening.

However, the negatives were more than the positives on this event.

As it clocked 1am last, most people were walking out of Serena with their heads bowed down and promising never to attend the Uganda Entertainment Awards after what they had witnessed.

We found out that no winner walked out of the venue with their award as only one gong was present at the function. Winners only posed with it for picture. They would return the gong to the organisers on their way off the stage and the organisers would in turn give it to another winner for a photo opportunity.

Besides that, we also learnt that some service providers pulled out at the last minute over lack of payment. Dj Roja and SlickStuart who were supposed to host the event sent out a message of how they had also pulled out.

Some of the winners of the night who never went home without awards include:-

Eddy Kenzo won best video for his jubilation song.

Denis Onyango was voted best Sportsman

Swengere won best comedy

Band Cindy won best band of the year.

The Beat took the best entertainment programme

Roger Mugisha- Best actor

Hellen Lukoma-Best Actress etc.
