Hustler: Amon Bazira

BAKE LOVE: Amon Bazira started his cake and decoration business with only Shs100,000 which he got from his parents. Eight years later, among his achievements is a school that trains young people how to bake.

What kind of business are you into?
I offer cake and decoration services.

What is the name of your business?
I call it Amon Classic Cakes and Decoration Services.

When did you start this business?
In 2009 after I completed my studies.

What was the beginning like when you started?
It was not smooth at all. I started with decorating as I looked for clients and gained more experience. With time I started interesting people in buying my cakes.

Where did you get the capital?
If it wasn’t for the support of my parents, I don’t know if I would be doing this business. They were very supportive and they gave me Shs100,000 which I used to buy a few stuff to start with.

What kind of events do you target?
I target all kinds of functions,.

But do you think this is a worthy business?
Of course it is. There are events every weekend and because of the experience I have, my clientele has grown big.

What have you achieved from this business?
A lot. I have opened up two shops and I also started a school where I teach youth how to bake and do decorations.

What does it take to make a good cake?
You need ingredients such as flour, sugar, eggs, prestige, different flavours, mixing bowls, measuring cylinders, milk. Mix eggs with flour, sugar and prestige until they dissolve, then add milk, add flavours, leave it to rest for about 30 minutes then put it in an oven. If it is a small cake, burn it for 30 to 45 minutes and if it is a huge one, it takes an hour.

How much would you charge in case someone wants you to do both decoration and cakes at their function?
That would depend on the theme of the place and the location. But I charge from Shs3m to Shs10m.
