Comedian Mpamire scoops continental award



Ugandan standup comedian, Teacher Mpamire, real names Herbert Ssegujja has entered 2017 a happy man after scooping a continental award.

Teacher Mpamire, a self-proclaimed “most celebrated teacher” was announced by the Africa Youth Awards as the winner of the 2016 Discovery of the Year.

Africa Youths Awards is the continent’s awards for young people, aimed at motivating and helping them to boost their talents to a higher level.

Mpamire took to his Face book page and posted what he called breaking news and revealed to his fans that he is the winner of the 2016 Discovery of the Year.

Thank you My Students! Thank you so much for Voting! Teacher Mpamire a.k.a Ssegujja Herbert Mendo is the discovery winner of the year in Africa!!!” read his post.

Celebrations for all those who have emerged winners will be held on January 22 during the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Mpamire’s post attracted many congratulatory messages from his fans who thanked him for his hard work and focus.

“As the East African community, we are proud of you, I have been following you on  YouTube and appreciating your work, hard work pays, please press on,” posted Geoff Ngatunga.

More than 150 contestants submitted in their applications and Teacher Mpamire was among the 18 who made it for different awards.

Uganda’s Sylvia Kakyo was also voted Advocate of the Year. Kakyo is the CEO of Kakyo girl’s initiative, a non-governmental organisation that promotes quality education, the end of poverty and gender equality.
