It has been a while since Uganda last had a performance by a Congolese artiste but last Friday evening, Sheraton Hotel gardens was the place to be for the first edition of the Lingala night featuring Congolese rumba maestro General Defao.

The music general who is popular for songs like Amour Scolaire, and Sala Noki that got people grooving in the 90s and early 2000s took the audience down memory lane with a killer performance.

The turn up was not that great but the few who came enjoyed every piece of action that transpired during the night. The event was kicked off by a fashion display of some of the best African wear from Congo by Shomi Africa designs and Dax Couture.

After the fashion display, we headed straight to the performance which started off with the singing of the Congolese national anthem by Rogatien Milord.

Then Charmant Mushaga followed next with soothing ballads that that came from his guitar. He performed songs like Sankalewa, Mutiima – his composition with Keko, and Demi Amor.

Clad in an all-black attire referred as la sappe, the man of the night General Defao along with his band members went straight to business and among the songs they sung were Animation, Famille Kiluta, and Mboka ya Diogene. He also did other songs like Madilu System’s Nzele, before concluding the night.
