Harry Porter screenwriter, J.K Rowling, has another fantasy work in the cinemas. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is her latest work, prodding between the works of magic and wizardry in one of the world’s most famous cities- New York. The movie is set in the year 1926 when the city is attacked by unstoppable dark powers and is thus under destruction.

Young Newt Scamander arrives in New York to its grimy face and checks into a hotel room that is only piles of destruction. Using his magic, he puts everything in order. He has just returned from journeying the world documenting magical creatures.
Non-magical Mary meets Newt (Eddie Redmayne), in his room and as she cautions him about witchcraft and wizard work, a Niffler escapes his brown suitcase. Jacob Kowalski, who is in the same room and has just woken up, springs to his feet and escapes with Newt’s suitcase by mistake. Little does he know that the case consists of more than just one creature.
As the city seeks solutions to the dark forces, fate brings together Newt and three others as fugitives. They are on a constant run from law enforcers. However, their efforts are targeting to destroy the witches and wizards that have destroyed New York.
When asked what it was like when he first read the movie script, lead actor Redmayne says one of the most spectacular things about the script was that it was a thriller, then an adventure.
“At the end of the script I was like, ‘Oh my God! How can all of this be woven into one story that takes place over a couple of days?’ And yet, somehow [Rowling] manages to do that,” Redmayne told IMBb.
The whole Harry Porter team seems to be on this one. Director, David Yates, who has directed the Harry Porter franchise is also director of this movie. He has also directed The Legend of Tarzan, Tyrant, Sex Traffic, among other films.
Still in its opening week, the movie has grossed $74.4m in North America and $145.5m in other countries, with a worldwide total of $219.9m. Its total production budget is $180m, so it has already realised profit.
