The dvd: Let it shine

This gospel movie might be more appealing to a younger crowd but there is a thing or two that everyone can learn from it. The movie has a storyline that is similar to a number of other movies but in its defence, it is a pretty old one. It is a tale about a preacher’s son Cyrus (Tyler James Williams) with excellent vocals. When he is not practicing with the church choir, he is out at the club waiting on tables and cleaning up after the guests. While locked up in his bedroom, Cyrus spends his time at the mixer, making beats and rapping. And though he does not look like it, he is actually very good. Cyrus does not believe in himself and he misses countless opportunities to prove that he is a good rapper to all those that despise him.
His grand opportunity comes when he sends his rap to a music competition and his song is the best. Unfortunately, he submits a picture of him with a friend (Trevor Jackson) who looks way cooler than him. The person choosing the contest automatically thinks his friend is the one that submitted the cool rap. Cyrus fails to find an opportunity to point out the mistake and his friend, who loves attention is too eager for the attention to let him explain. Getting out of that shadow does not look like a possibility and it won’t only cost him his dream career, but also the girl of his dreams. The acting is basic and so is the storyline. But it has an important lesson on humility.
