Sudhir Ruparelia is not just your ordinary business mogul. This after he led his team to victory in the ‘Ready, Steady Cook Off’ competition that took place at Kabira Country Club.
With proceeds from the gate collections and the participation fee bent towards helping the ‘Elizabeth House Centre for Children and Youths with Disabilities in Mukono’, fans used the Martyrs Day opportunity) to take to the venue in big numbers; and so did the competitors who included Bebe Cool and his wife Zuena alongside Chizzo Lubega and his wife Flirsh Flavia from the Gagamel Phamily camp taking on others clubs like ‘Wednesday Club’ headed by Sudhir, Kabira Country Club, Ruparelia Foundation, Red Pepper, NBS TV, Sheraton Hotel and Kampala Food Network.
At midday, each participating group was handed aprons, vented hats, tags and a bag containing 15 surprise ingredients, of which 13 were supposed to be used to prepare a dish of their choice. The competition kicked off thereafter.
After all the eight teams had prepared their different dishes, the judges led by Mark Kaheru inspected what they had come up with and announced that Sudhir and his team (Wednesday Club) were the day’s winners due to originality, cleanliness, taste and use of ingredients. They received an accolade.
The event, will be hosted twice a year and according to the main organizer Dipu Ruparelia, the proprietor Maarifa, the event is aimed at giving people the feel they always miss in other similar cook offs.
“People don’t usually feel part of it, as it is always between restaurants. What we want is families to participate.” He said before adding that they will always give back to charity whenever the event is organized.
