Tanzania’s veteran singer, Rehema Chalamila commonly known as Ray C was over the weekend rushed to Life and Hope Rehabilitation Centre in Bagamoyo after she suffered a drug overdose, we have reliably learnt.

The artiste famed for songs like Mapenzi yangu, Umenikataa and Wanifautia had been abusing drugs in 2012 but had been taken to rehab and it seemed she was on the road to recovery.

However, it looks like there has been a hitch in the process. It was reported that she was rescued by police after she tried to commit suicide on the 16th of this respective month.

It is reported that the singer was yelling in the streets of Kinondoni Manyanya in Dar el Salaam-Tanzania, before asking for a knife to stab herself because she thought some people wanted to kidnap her. It is at this point that police intervened and came to her rescue.

Her admission to the rehabilitation centre was confirmed by Karim Banji, one of the managers from Life and Hope Rehabilitation Centre who said they have Ray C under observation, according to reports coming in from Tanzania.

“It’s true we have Ray C. She is eating well and resting,” was all that Karim said about the matter.
