App: Munno (prototype)

win

There is nothing more satisfying than downloading an app that has been locally made, since it becomes easy to relate with.
Last weekend, more than 60 innovative youth from different universities were tasked to create an app prototype that will be implemented to help smart phone users access information on reproductive health.
The winning app was named Munno, which was selected to ease acceptance since the word means ‘friend’ in English. The Munno app was designed by a team from Ndejje University (pictured) and it encourages openness and promotes self-expression of women, with emphasis on privacy.
The competition was organised by Vodafone Uganda, Marie Stopes Uganda and Hostalite with the aim of improving reproductive health among women in Uganda.
Munno is adaptable to Andriod, iOS, USSD (paid sms) Windows, and it will cut across users from all walks of life. The app hopes to be ready for download in six-eight months, owing to the fact that it needs to be refined to meet Marie Stopes objectives and tested in the targeted communities. It also allows the app an incubation period by Hostalite Cyber Academy to verify that the technologies used are adaptable and the team is holistically ready to turn the app into a sustainable venture.
