The music video: Agatako – chameleone ft Dj Pius

The word ‘agatako’ carries a different meaning for various music fans. No wonder, there was a certain impatience that engulfed fans as they awaited the release of this music video. This video was shot in Kigali, Rwanda, the land of a thousand hills by Press It Films. And just like the meaning of ‘agatako’, the video was another love souvenir of sorts where Uganda and Rwanda cemented their affair.

The environment in the video is one of a full downpour, and starts with two lovers holding hands while drenched in the waters. And guess what? The magical duo of Radio and Weasel couldn’t miss the chance to feature in this video as extras. Passion in this video is expressed with this dancer who twizzles her long hair, all dripping with rain drops as she executes a contemporary dance.

I am pretty much disappointed in the indoor scenes of this video. They don’t seem to bring out the actual storyline. It is as though these scenes take us on a hopeless hunt with no destination, a journey with nothing to steal one’s breath.

Truth be told, this is not a video you will be remembering a week after you have watched it. There is a creeping monotony that comes with watching this video, only saved at moments by this beautiful lady who reveals her shimmering thighs under the dimming lights.

What in this video represents the souvenir? What new thing does this music video add to the grand scale of visual arts? Perhaps we could credit it on the lighting. However, that would be a rushed conclusion. Pause a little and notice all blurs, the shadows that deny the clarity to the facials of the characters. It is not the worst of videos, but it is also clearly not so above the line of average.
