The dvd: The cobbler

This movie has been criticised for mediocrity. It has been said to be inferior to the other movies such as The Station Agent, The Visitor and Win Win which are all by the same filmmaker Tom McCarthy. One reviewer said watching it feels like watching a trainwreck that bursts into flames and then another train crashes into it. These make it seem like such a bad watch, but I disagree.
That is probably because I can tolerate bad or average acting if a movie has a good plot and The Cobbler does have a very good plot. It is so unique, it mesmerised. Many movies that I watch have a likeness to something else that I have watched but that is not the case for this flick. I have never watched anything with a plot like this so I think the brains behind this are very creative and unique and deserve credit for it. The Cobbler tells a story of Max Simkin (Adam Sandler) who repairs shoes in the same New York shop that has been in his family for generations. Disillusioned by the routine of daily life, Max stumbles upon a magical heirloom that allows him to step into the lives of his customers and see the world in a new way. He literally steps into other people’s shoes and you know what they say, sometimes walking in another man’s shoes is the only way to discover who you really are. This is a good watch that will slowly captivate you to watch till the very end.
