It was a good mix of comedy and music, but as revellers enjoyed the two, there was some food for thought. Young people were able to share their testimonies about living with HIV. Robinah Babirye, a third year student at Kyamboggo University, shared her story that proved that despite being HIV positive, she is positive about life. She is one of the ladies under comedian Pablo’s campaign dubbed Zip-up, which aims at creating awareness and breaking the barriers of HIV/Aids in a light hearted manner among students.
Prime Minister, Ruhakana Rugunda, applauded efforts of Zip-up and said government will continue in efforts to fight the scourge.
This was at third edition of the Comedy Meets Music fete that was held at Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday. The fete was headlined by comedian Dr Ofweneke from Nigeria who teased ladies for asking for a guy who can be their security yet they cannot bring themselves to date security guards.
He went on to throw jibes at plus-size men for having ‘natural bouncing castle’ (tummies) and therefore do not need to hire bouncing castle advising that they should lie on their back and let their little one bounce off their tummies.
The main host, Pablo, was in fine mood and kept the audience tickled with his attempt to sing but flatting and then his frolics with his son as the two danced and entertained the crowd.
Teacher Mpamire was amusing both in hi comedy delivery and dress code. He turned up dressed in a checkered suit made out of common restaurant table cloth colours, yellow socks, multi-coloured shoes and a tie.
On the musicians’ front, Levixone’s reggae and ragga sounds got the crowd on its feet. His collaboration, Shuga, with Sandra Suubi and fellow gospel singer Solome was a good one. Cape Brothers another kept secret of smooth vocalists performed amazingly well, wowing the crowd with their acapella tunes. Bracha Band has its moment too.
However, another advertised Nigerian Gordons did not turn up for the show. Pablo says that he is sickly. “He got an attack the night of his travel and was advised not to travel. He is asthmatic,” Pablo explained.
