After four years, the games finally come to an end! I exclaim because it has felt like more than four years, waiting for every movie. If you have read The Hunger Games trilogy books, then you should understand what I am talking about. Before we delve into the plot of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, I would advise anyone who has not watched the first three movies to do so before watching this one. You know how sometimes a movie will try to catch you up through flashbacks, there is none of that here. The movie starts where it left off in Part 1 without missing a beat.
Let’s take a short recap for anyone who may not want to watch the others. The Hunger Games is set in the dystopian Panem. A place with 12 districts under the leadership of President Snow (Sutherland) at the Capitol. Every year, each district takes two tributes –female and male to compete in the Hunger Games, aptly named because whoever wins also wins food for their district. From District 12, Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) and Peeta (Hutcherson) represent. To avoid spoilers, let’s just say they performed beyond expectation, so much that the last movie, Mockingjay Part 1 has Panem in a state of a revolution under President Coin (Moore).
Part 2 picks up from there with Katniss, her friends Peeta, Gale (Hemsworth), Finnick, and Cressida plus some of President Coin’s people going to war against Snow. Snow is not sitted waiting for his death, of course. He has all the weapons that came in handy during the Hunger Games at his disposal and he is using them without abandon. In short, Katniss and group have quite the battle on their hands. On top of that Katniss struggles with who she can trust and who she cannot, and a myriad of other troubles that have plagued her since the first movie.
Since it is the fourth installment of the movie, everyone who has been following and enjoyed it will watch it, no matter what the critics say. That said, director Francis Lawrence did not go easy on making the movie exciting – which it is. In some places. However, in others you cannot help feeling like everyone on set could not wait to get to the end.
