The great Indian dhaba

SPICY: If you have not been to India but would like to have a feel of what it is like, then The Great Indian Dhaba Restaurant is a fair start. It will give you an authentic experience of Indian food, just the way it is prepared back in India. EDGAR R. BATTE

Dhaba in India is a highway joint where truckers stop to have their meal and take rest, and while they do so, traditional popular Indian dishes are served. That’s what Ugandan culinary adventurers and Indians will get at the new entrant in food business that is premised in Kololo, along Wampewo Avenue, opposite Housing Finance Bank.
The compound is something of interest with truck heads, cycle rickshaws, a small water tank that serves as a water well, plus Indian style sitting beds for lunch or dinner. The place is painted with bright colours to complete the theme of dhaba and the wall hangings are famous Bollywood movieee posters.
Basically the Dhaba is an informal, family place for dining which has Indian theme at its heart with bright colours which makes you feel the warmth of Indian hospitality and culture.
There are different sections; Madras Cafe, a regular style dining area, Mocchad Da Dhaba, a warm dining area with bright colours with posters of Bollywood movies, an open sitting area with traditional dhaba style sitting on beds and the bandas where you have a chance to become your own chef. The restaurant will provide you with all the raw products and ingredients.
There are Indian chefs on site. You might consider taking a family lunch there over the weekend. Before or after meal time, children can play at the children’s play area.
The hangout’s publicist Aziz Mukasa explains that they have daily specials.
He shares that the Dhaba’s concept and décor was done by proprietors, Captain Abhay Agrawal and his wife, Namita Agrawal. The target clientele is the working middle class. The capacity is 150 people though Mukasa says they can accommodate up to 500 guests for private functions.
The Dhaba is open all week from 11am to 11pm. The average price for a three-course meal is between Shs35,000 and Shs50,000. Beware, Indian food is spicy but tasty.
