“If I didn’t have so many friends up there, this show wouldn’t have happened,” singer Bebe Cool told thousands of fans at his annual East African Carnival concert held at Kiwatule Recreation Centre on Easter Monday. Bebe was not trying to defend the average attendance at the concert, but he meant every bit of his words. Kiwatule police OC, Afande Kasigire confirmed Bebe’s words. “We had decided to call off the event because of the terror alerts. It was very risky,” Kasigire said.
Bebe told us that he received the news of the cancellation of his show on Easter Sunday. “I thought about the weight of the investment from money to time and how many of my fans look forward to see me perform on Easter Monday every year. I picked up my phone and called the IGP – Gen Kale Kayihura and requested him to make the best decision for my fans and myself,” Bebe told us.
Meanwhile, Bebe told the service providers to go on with preparations normally. Gen Kayihura only gave Bebe a green light after he personally visited Kiwatule Recreation Centre on Monday morning.
The police boss also ordered for massive deployment in all neighbouring areas as well as the Northern Bypass. Meanwhile Gen Kayihura silently camped at a spot in Kiwatule until the end of the show. The show went on well, but not for Bebe as the Everywhere You Go singer openly told his friends that he was indebted to the tune of about Shs50m because of the low turn-up attributed to the terror alert.
