Hustler : Martha Mugisha

hustler

After her restaurant business failed, Mugisha partnered with her friend, Sharon Natukunda, to start up a children’s clothes business. We caught up with her.

What name did you give your business?
Classy Kids Wear.

Why did you decide to get into this business?
Most of our friends have children and shopping is hard for them because of other responsibilities. So, we took it upon ourselves to source the clothes for them to buy.

Where are you situated?
We don’t have a specific location but we are looking to get one in the middle of the city before the year ends. We make deliveries to anyone who wants our clothes.

What exactly do you sell and at how much?
We sell both girls’ and boys’ clothes and bedsheets. Clothes range from Shs10,000 to Shs25,000 while bed sheets cost from Shs30,000 to Shs60,000.

How much did you invest in this business?
We started with Shs1m, with just a few clothes that we sold and got profit.

Do you sell clothes for specific ages?
We sell clothes for newly born babies to six–years-olds, while the bed sheets are for all ages.

Where do you get them from?
We buy them from UK and US. We have friends who send us the clothes.

When did you open?
We started this business at the beginning of this year.

How do you beat competition?
Our main means of selling these clothes is through social media, like Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp and Instagram. Whenever we get new stock, we display it there and people place their orders. Because of our quality clothes, people keep coming back.

How many clothes can you sell in a day?
We can sell about 50 clothes a day in a good season and around five to 10 a day in a bad season.

How can someone contact you in case they want your services?
Reach us on Facebook @ Classy Kids Wear or call us on 0772608636 and 0701245117.
