Bobi Wine in Shs50m helmet deal

Sometimes the good message comes from the bad boy; take Bobi Wine for example.

The Firebase Crew honcho is known to command respect as he has – throughout his career – influenced behavioural change amongst his fans especially the youth.
It is on that basis therefore that the Global Helmet Vaccine Initiative (GHVI) have had to part with Shs50m to ensure Bobi joins the campaign to promote motorcycle helmet wearing in Uganda.
Bobi received a cool Shs30m in cash and the figure is expected to rise up to Shs50m throughout the 12-month campaign as Uganda’s Helmet Vaccine ambassador.
His job will be to educate boda-boda users, both the riders and passengers, on the benefits of wearing helmets to save lives.
“I share the same values as the Global Helmet Vaccine Initiative when it comes to boda boda transport safety,” said Bobi Wine. “This is not about signing a deal, this is about helping to save lives. For all the years of my career, my mission has been to spread the kind of message that affects my community positively.”
GHVI aims to promote motorcycle helmet wearing across the developing world, working in partnership with governments, the private sector and non-government organisations.
GHVI programme in Uganda is coordinated through the Uganda Helmet Vaccine regional office and is working in partnership with Ministry of Health, Uganda Police, the Injury Control Centre Uganda, Kampala Capital City Authority and the boda boda association of Kampala.
