Achom owns a mobile boutique business that she started in 2013 having grown up with a keen interest in fashion designing. She opens up about this business.

What is the name of your business?
Unique Designs, because I believe all my products are not found anywhere else.

What are some of the products that you deal in?
I sell casual, dinner, beach and office wear. I’m also into fashion consultancy and interior arrangements.

How much did you invest in your business and where did you get that money?
My initial capital was just Shs100,000 and it was through savings.

How much do you sell these clothes?
Tops go for Shs5,000, skirts and pants cost Shs15,000, dresses cost Shs20,000, shoes range between Shs35,000 and Shs50,000, scarves cost Shs5,000, bags cost Shs15,000 and earrings cost between Shs5,000 and Shs10,000.
What means of transport do you use to deliver these clothes from place to place?
Whatever means are available, but I normally use boda bodas to save time.

Where do you get these items from?
I import them from the UK. I add on them some details to create the unique styles that add some extra touch to my items.

What are these details that you add on them?
Beads and I cut some into rugged styles, making them trending designs.

You mentioned earlier that you do fashion consultancy and interior arrangements. How much do you charge for each?
Consultation for children costs Shs20,000 and Shs30,000 for adults. Interior arrangements depend on the room size. If it’s a single room, I charge Shs50,000, double goes for Shs100,000 and a full house goes for Shs300,000.
