He is the official DJ of Bebe Cool’s Gagamel Crew and also does club gigs. DJ Bryan tells us about his journey as a disc jockey.
When did you start deejaying?
I started in 2004 with Tomex and Amsta Disco Sounds.
Why did you become a deejay of all professions?
I joined deejaying because of my love for music.
Which places do you exhibit your skills?
Currently, I’m a deejay at 93.3KFM every Saturday during the Dance Party Show, I’m the official Gagamel deejay and I play at Asylum Bar and Lounge every Friday and Saturday.
Does that mean you cannot play music for any other artiste besides Bebe Cool?
I can play for any other artiste provided he can meet my costs. Besides, we have hosted different artistes on KFM and at Asylum where I play.
How much do you charge if someone wanted your services for a function?
I can’t tell you the exact amount because it’s all about the negotiations between me and my client.
What qualities should a good deejay have?
Discipline and respect for the game.
What is your best music and why?
Reggae music because it has a lot of positive vibes to society.
What type of machines do you use?
Pioneers, Numark and Technics for decks, controllers and turn tables.
How much do they cost?
Controllers range from £500 (Shs2m) to £1,000 (Shs4m), depending on the specifics. Decks range from £2,000 (Shs8m) to £5,000 (Shs20m) . Turntables range from £4,000 (Shs16m) to £7,000 (Shs28m). But all that depends on the stores and branches worldwide.
How grateful are you for this profession?
The game exposed me a lot to another world where you find and meet so many different kinds of people in so many different sectors of life, which has made me the person I am today.
And what disadvantages have you got so far because of this job?
I sometimes go out of my way to please the different kinds of people I have to deal with.
