In a country where many have misunderstood the national Identification Cards registration for national census and music seems to be the voice most understand, Joanita Kawalya, a vocalist with the legendary Afrigo band was provoked to pen this sensitisation song Be Counted, urging listeners to take part in the oncoming population census later this month. In a bid to appeal to all age groups and people of different ethnic groups, she teams up with many young artistes from different regions of Uganda like GNL and Jemimah, among others.
Once one listens to this song, there is nothing more to it except its lyrics, therefore no one should expect danceable beats but rather sit and pick the message.
When a listener plays this song they should imagine being in an interesting lecture as the lyrics seem more of an outline of the importance of the population census and the need for every Ugandan to take part.
Apart from that, the multi genre including rap and R’nb, the diversity in language is the highlight of this song as they sing in English, Luganda, Runyankole and Luo giving Joanita Kawalya’s composition an edge over most sensitisation songs.
