Hustler : Richard Musaazi

Richard Musaazi

Isaac Ssejjombwe

After his studies in the UK, Richard Musaazi went into delivery service business to make ends meet and he is opening up a branch in Uganda this July.

What is the name of your business and what services do you provide?
It’s called EBB, which stands for Entebbe. We are a courier express delivery service company specialising in same day pick-up to individuals and businesses and sending items in all volumes throughout Europe and in July, we are starting business in Uganda.

When did you start up this business?
I started this company at the beginning of this year.

What experience did you have, to start this kind of business?
Well, I am quite experienced in this field because I was previously working at Europe’s second largest courier company called Asendia.

What took you to the UK?
I went for studies. I did a diploma in Private Investigation and a degree in Police Studies and also a BA in Criminal Justice at the University of Essex, UK.

You totally took on a different career from what you studied. Why?
I have been in this industry for several years and I came to realise that with courier business, economic times don’t hurt like other business and it’s too difficult to penetrate the police department here in the UK if you are not a citizen.

Do you think this business is worth investing in here in Uganda?
I believe so because there is always a benefit of trading internationally even for small companies. Right now, Uganda is a net importer which means Uganda imports more than it exports and besides, we will be able to deliver parcels from Uganda to Europe and vice versa in just two to three days at an affordable price.

Are you planning to station yourself in Uganda to run the business or someone is going to run it for you?
I don’t have to be in Uganda to run a business. EBB is a technology led company, which I can run from anywhere in the world. Our customers have a choice to follow their urgent delivery from the comfort of their smart phones but I’ll be between London and Kampala.

What is your advice to young hustlers who would want to be like you out there?
Be creative and turn your ideas into marketable products or services.
