The Track: CORRUPTION – RADIO, WEASEL & BAKRI

GoodlyfeAlthough this is not reggae music, it reminds you of the true roots of that type of music, when music did not just get you skanking to endless ecstasy, but brought you to a sense of social consciousness and made you want to do something. This is what made up the lyrics of the greats like Bob Marley, not just smoking ganja and running after women.

This is why this song by the Good Lyfe boys and Bakri is a perfect audio fit for our society. It is commendable that the artistes seem to put their heart into what they sing, as if they really care about these issues and they are not just looking out for when the pay cheque from whichever NGO funded this song, will finally arrive.

They paint pictures of just what corruption is, not just chanting its name. They tell of the hospitals where medicines are lacking, the schools where there are no classrooms, the roads where there are no bridges, all because someone somewhere ran away with our money.

“Corruption is killing the nation,” they sing, and you can tell right there, that they are not just making an attempt at a beautiful melody here, that it is not about the music. It is about you and the society you live in.
