The track : MPOLA MPOLA – GRACE NAKIMERA

Grace Nakimera

Grace Nakimera

From the rich array of material from Grace Nakimera’s kitchen, comes yet another serving of pretty love-song nourishment. It’s the same quality of voice; the same characteristic manipulation of intonation to achieve high and low notes when they really matter that have come to characterise Grace Nakimera songs as we know them.

She is singing about love, again, and she is promising to take her love for her man, slowly but surely. The song seems to be addressed to a lover who is unsure of the love he has with his partner. Nakimera mentions all the things she plans to do to keep him, and disabuse him of any doubts and mistrust.

Mpola Mpola is a fine listen because its production shows off the fruits that efforts to merge local Ragga musical fusions, with elements of Crank and RnB, can bear. It is not plain kidandali. In the end it is a modern Ugandan and African sound that moves with the times but does not cheat its roots. Her vocal range is still perfect as well, as seen in that typical-Nakimera-rise in pitch that her voice goes on around the third verse. It’s testament to the talent she’s got, a truly gifted musician.
