For long, we have supported our music and had all the hope that it might take over the continent and eventually the globe! But let’s face the truth, only a few of our musicians have managed to scoop continental awards as most of them have concentrated on childish beefing back home. But let’s give credit where its due; for the past few years, Ugandan comedians have tried to go continental and I think they have achieved a thing or two.
Ugandan comedians made a mark when they managed to interest continental pay TV DSTV to screen a weekly comedy show dubbed Comedy Club Live Kampala for two months. Ugandan comedians Cotilda and Salvador were headliners at the continental comedy show Night of 1000 laughs before they inspired the organisers to hold a debut show in Kampala.
A few weeks ago, Salvador and Cotilda held the Ugandan flag high when they cracked ribs in Lagos, Nigeria. And to endorse their great talents, the two members of the Crackers comedy outfit sealed deals that will see them return for monthly comedy shows in Naija starting this November. “We were also chosen to perform at the African Kings of Comedy show in Naija in December. The show will feature leading comedians from Ghana, South Africa, Mali, Kenya and several other African states,” said Cotilda.
