Fashion Tip: Flat Shoes

There is nothing better than being fashionable and comfortable at the same time. With flat shoes you are guaranteed comfort, but here is how to be fashionable in them.

Heels look great, but let’s face it, they put a little bit or a lot of strain on your feet, and well, there are times you wish you could just get away with flat shoes. Wish no more because the flat shoe is here to your rescue with lots of fashionable options to go with every, well almost every outfit.

Severally the flat shoe is blamed for many fashion bombs and anyone looking to dress up avoids them most of the time, but if you are keen, you will notice more and more people bucking the heels trend and wearing flat shoes. Thank God for this because that means the rest of us can give our feet some rest, and also because a wide range of nice stylish flats can be found almost everywhere you can get a decent pair of heels, basically every boutique worth its salt.

Because they are temptingly comfortable and heels are usually almost always the opposite, wearing flats then becomes a question of getting away with it and for that you need a tip or two. Here are some basic pointers on how to join the bandwagon and come off stylish.

What to wear them with: The most vilified is the trend of wearing dresses and flats. An evening dress and flat shoes is a no no, but then a maxi dress or a sassy sun or summer dress comes off even better with a stylish pair of sandals. Jeans, skinny jeans, Caribbean skirts, leggings, shorts, capri pants and minis also look effortlessly chic when coupled with a nice pair of flats.

Know your flats: They range from ballet flats, to sandals, slippers, moccasins and loafers. While most like slippers and moccasins are practical shoes, the ballet flats and sandals go the whole way from really casual, to dressy and statement varieties. So next time you go shopping, don’t just pick flats, carefully pick according to your style and the overall look you want to achieve.

Keep it classy: Let not the comfort fool you. There is a thin line between casual chic or comfortable elegance and shabby. Just because they are flat doesn’t mean they have to look plain, today you can find embellished or sleek flats, to go with your outfit. Also when you are at it, avoid anything too wild or casual like crocks.

Give it a pop of colour: Just because you don’t have a heel doesn’t mean they have to be boring so you don’t have to stick to black and brown. Make the most of the available designs and colours. You can wear flats in bright colours or print to balance out an outfit. Don’t hold back, be adventurous with the colours and patterns.
