THE TRACK: Aisha by Gift ov Kkaddo feat Mr X

Gift of Kkado

Gift of Kkado

This is a scandal, a crime against music. Just what is it with Ugandan musicians who for some unfathomable reason under the sun dump the duties of song writing and composition to already established acts, of yester year to make it worse?

In these pages last week, it was Eddy Kenzo, and now it is the very vocally gifted Gift ov Kkaddo, making a total abuse of that talent on a pedestrian Ugandan rendition of the French-Arabic classic, Aisha by Ched Khaled. Gift ov Kaddo is simply too good for this kind of kyeyo.

The song will neither make his star shine brighter, nor draw more fans to his cause. It sounds like an attempt at sounding like somebody else, not Gift. He sounds like he is duplicating something, which is what he is doing, if we are not to mince words.

Gift has himself into a tag-team with Mr X, to come up with a Weasel-and-Radio-like-outfit, with a vocalist on one side and a coarse-voice rapper on the other. But you don’t need to come from Jamaica to tell that whatever gibberish Mr X was spilling into the microphone on this song was neither sensible nor palatable. In the end, you have such great talent, totally wasting themselves across a four-minute expanse.
