TPF winner Estar into salon biz

Esther

You will not catch an Esther Nabaasa aka Estar-song playing at your kafunda or any of the top hangouts, but she still maintains she is a musician.

In case you have forgotten, we will refresh your memory. Estar was the first Ugandan to win the Tusker Project Fame contest, taking home a cash prize of Kshs5m (about Shs147m) as well as a one year recording contract with Gallo Records, the same studios that Lucky Dube recorded from.

Estar was also the voice behind Yoga Yoga, the anthem for the Uganda at 50 project.

She is believed to have bagged millions from the project following a disagreement with the project co-ordinator, Richard Kawesa, whom she accused of taking ownership of the song she had penned. With the jackpot from TPF and more millions of shillings last year, people were wondering where Estar was putting all her money. We can reliably reveal that Esta has several pieces of land around Kampala and a huge chunk of land in Mbarara, her home district. But besides the land, Esta recently unveiled her latest baby; a hair studio. Esta’s hair studio is situated near her home in Najjera.

And Esta confirmed to us that business is booming. “It’s a full-service salon offering hair extensions, colouring and haircuts, pedicure and manicure. I have many friends and they have kept the business really busy,” Esta told us.

Although she refused to disclose how much she had invested, one of the ladies at the salon estimated it to be about Shs50m.
