Singer Irene Namatovu’s car found in Iganga, Eastern Uganda

Irene-Namatovu-1KAMPALA. Police in Iganga district have discovered a car owned by local musician Irene Namatovu, that had been stolen last week. Namatovu is one of the directors of De New Eagles’ music band.

Speaking to Daily Monitor by telephone on Monday, Phillip Mukasa, the police spokesperson for Katonga region said they created a wider spy network that enabled police to get the singer’s car, Alphad type, registration number UAY 544Q.
“We used our internal and external intelligence to lead us to where the vehicle had been hidden. We tracked the car and it was found in a garage being re-painted by the mechanics there. As I talk now, we are transporting it to our custody in Kampala and it will be at CPS this evening,” he said.
He added there are some suspects detained as investigations into the case continue.
Namatovu, her husband Geoffrey Lutaaya and other three members of De New Eagles’ band were reportedly robbed at gunpoint last Thursday night by unknown people at Kalamba in Butambala district as they were coming from Kanoni town (Gomba) where they had a show.
They were undressed but not injured, according to a group member, also a singer, Betinah Namukasa. Other valuables including cash, Shs.1.5m and three mobile phones were also taken by the armed robbers.

Ms. Namatovu told the Daily Monitor on telephone, “I was very happy when officers of the Flying Squad called my husband saying that they had discovered our car. However, I was annoyed with conmen who have been calling me asking for money to help me get my car back. I thank the media for their fruitless efforts in helping me announce the theft of my car.”
