Salvado loses international TV deal after Star TV airs his one-man show

Last weekend comedian Patrick Idringi aka Salvado flew to Dubai for a short holiday. The comedian together with his team flew to UAE  to celebrate the success of his recently concluded Man from Ombokolo one-man show held at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
But before he flew to Dubai, Salvado faced a major hiccup after Star TV screened contents from his debut one-man show yet he had repeatedly begged TV stations not to film the show.
Salvado threatened to drag Star TV to court. The comedian told us that he lost a lot of money over Star TV airing the content from the show. “I had a non-disclosure deal with an international pay TV for production of the DVD that show. The people from that TV were really excited because of the reviews about the show. But the deal only stood as long as no other station airs the show. But while at home, they told me Star TV and WBS were airing the show. WBS was okay because they mostly did highlights. But Star TV showed over 30mins of the show; it was like they owned it,” Salvado said.
The comedian told us that he received an e-mail from the international TV informing him that the non-disclosure clause had been breached and so was the contract.
However, the holiday seems to have had an effect on Salvado’s thinking as the comedian told us that he will not be dragging Star TV to court, but said he will be meeting the TV management. Salvado argued that court process is very stressing and too long. The comedian however said that he intends to re-bargain with the international TV and have a new deal.
“This was a learning process. I could win the case, but the Ugandan copyright law is not that strong. I can get a better deal, but people should learn to respect others’ works. They don’t know what I went through to put up a show,” Salvado told us.
