Sadolin MabARTi challenge winner takes home Shs1.5m

mabati

You have probably come across paintings on iron sheets covering construction sites in Kampala. Those paintings are not there by mistake but part of a competition that happens every year courtesy of Sadolin paints.
The MabARTi Challenge involves artistes beautifying the city by painting the usually neglected iron sheets.
Held under the theme “Colors of urban nature” this year’s competition saw Gilbert Musinguzi, 25, emerge winner of the MabARTi challenge after beating 22 other visual artistes.
Musinguzi, who had received public applause for his work, was the third runner up in the Audience Award which was won by Doddridge Busingye.
Musinguzi’s work which was titled ‘Kampala Kuyiiya’ (Kampala the city of creativity) captured the urban realities of Kampala City. It showed a large number of people trading their goods in the busy streets.
Busingye’s piece – Reflection of Kampala – earned him Shs1,000,000, while Rodney Kiggundu who came third took home Shs 500,000. His artwork was “Two Hills Same people”
All three winners will showcase their winning pieces as well as other artworks for sale to the public at an exhibition whose details will be shared at a later date.
