Eric Wainaina, Radio & Weasel to headline Blankets & Wine festival

What started as an event where people carried their beddings to go and sit with friends and family over a drink, is fast becoming one of the biggest events on Kampala’s entertainment calendar. Well, the first Blankets and Wine Kampala event this year is slated for Sunday May 3, and it promises to be a better event than the previous editions. News is that Kenya’s Afro-fusion King, Eric Wainaina is set to light up the ninth edition of the event at the Uganda Museum grounds in Kampala.
A household name in his native Kenya, Wainaina will share the stage at the highly anticipated quarterly, picnic style event with Uganda’s singing duo, Radio and Weasel of the Goodlyfe Crew, Suzan Kerunen and Janzi Band.
Wainaina has a reputation for speaking the truth to those in power. His song Nchi Ya Kitu Kidogo, released way back in 2001 is a powerful indictment of corruption and the kick-back culture that had blighted Kenyan politics.
Phoebe Nakabazzi, the Tusker Malt Lager Brand Manager- the sponsors of the event, told us that they are doing all they can to breathe freshness into the event. “The choice of music for this event is rich and varied. Eric Wainaina is an icon whose music cuts right through issues affecting society. We are excited to have him at the event. Mowzey Radio and Weasel’s music will give our revellers the opportunity to showcase their dancing skills,” she said.
