To some, he was just a deejay who was trying to make a mark on Uganda’s social scene, but to many, he had become family, especially those who frequented hangouts like Gekko lounge, Cayenne, Sky Lounge and others. Last Saturday’s evening memories will therefore remain in some people’s hearts, as DJ Crisio bowed out of Uganda’s nightlife by playing what could perhaps be termed as his last event in Uganda.

DJ Crisio, real names Christopher Van Dogen has been one of Uganda’s few expatriate DJs, having come from the Netherlands seven years ago. For the time he has been here, he has entertained at many of Kampala’s biggest concerts and parties such as Roast and Rhyme, Blankets and Wine, Neyo’s and Sauti Sol’s concerts.

Last Saturday, the DJ was thrown a farewell party at Panamera bar and lounge powered by Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) under its Love Scotch festival.

During the farewell party, Crisio said one of the reasons he’s leaving Uganda is because he wants his young family to experience the European life having already lived the African one.

“I have been in Uganda for the past seven years and I must say I have enjoyed my time here. I am married to a Ugandan lady and I would like my children to experience the opportunities available back in the Netherlands,” he explained.

Crisio who has also been the general manager of Talent Africa said that when he came to Kampala back in 2010, he had come as a researcher and was supposed to stay for a month. He however started Deejaying only four years ago and what a journey it has been.

“The amazing Kampala night life got me hooked and I thus made the decision to stay here longer. I have to admit I will miss the Kampala night life. I will be coming back from time to time.”

Crisio is headed back to his home country Netherlands to concentrate on raising his young family as well as pursue other business interests.
