Fashion tip: Stacking on the Glamour

Try wrist adornments

The idea is simple. Invest in several wrist accessories, of different varieties but instead of wearing one or two, wear several on each wrist. Normally we cannot expect our local musicians to produce hits and set trends. But sometimes, one takes up something, makes it their signature look and by a stroke of luck it becomes a thing.

Like Mowzey Radio and his constantly photographed bracelets. If you have seen a picture of the singer, you have probably noticed those colourful bands on his wrist. Well the actual bands are not the real item of the moment but the idea of stacking several adornments on both arms no less is in. The idea is simple. Invest in several wrist accessories, of different varieties but instead of wearing one or two, wear several on each wrist.

The type you pick depends on what you like; it could be the bracelet, a cuff, or bangle as long as you wear several. Even better, mix them up, as in wear a cuff with several bangles or some chunky bracelets with a few skinny bangles. For bangles, it is easy to get a set cheaply. Multicolours are big at the moment and can spice up any outfit.

You can also go the classic way of gold or silver and copper bangles. Bracelets run the whole gamut from metal to beaded leather, glass or plastic and can be found almost anywhere you can find necklaces and earings. You can also check out craft markets because, thankfully, everything African is no longer brown. You can get colourful and understated pieces. The leather cuffs are having a big moment especially with the boys.

However much you are free to stack, you should bear in mind that there are some styles that won’t work, like chunky bangles and a cuff, which is too much. If you wear some chunky bangles and still want to add something, you can throw in a few metal skinny bangles. When it is a formal or glamorous event, it is better to stack just one thing, avoiding the mixing altogether. Like wear several bangles, or wear a cuff.
