Not even the defunct Pearl of Africa Music Awards could make 10 years, a milestone BUZZ Teeniez Awards achieved last Saturday at the Lugogo UMA show grounds where a variety of celebrities and different individuals were rewarded for their contribution in the entertainment industry.

Dubbed ‘10 over 10’, the 10-year celebration was achieved through determination, persistence and consistence as the chief organiser Julius Kyazze explains.

“It is emotional for us to have made all these years. It hasn’t been easy for us but determination, zeal and persistence have been leading us through these years.

The endless support we have been getting from the indebted parents who have trusted us with their children over these years, the children, the sponsors, media have all played a part in this milestone and we promise to still offer responsible entertainment in the coming years,” he said.

The event came with quite a number of surprises such as new hosts in Mackenzie and Malaika, new venue UMA show grounds and DJ Shiru not winning the funkiest Deejay for the first time ever.

He was instead honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution towards the entertainment industry.

“This is truly an honour for me because I’m the first deejay to receive it yet I’m not that old in age but old in experience,” Shiru said about his award.

Being a teen’s event, the show kicked off at about 2:00pm with a countdown of the greatest music, which was followed by a jaw-dropping performance by Winnie Nwagi who clinched the Teeniez Breakout Artiste. She performed her hit song Musawo, complete with a hospital scene – bed, nurses and a patient.

Besides her, there were also energetic performances from Roden Y, Navio and Levixone but the surprise of them all was Maurice Kirya who doesn’t perform at such events.

Like it has always been the case, Sheebah’s performance was what got the teens screaming after she did ‘Nkwatako’ and other songs but this was before she was announced the ‘Teeniez Female Artiste of the Year.

A Pass was the biggest winner of the day, taking home Teeniez Male Artiste, Hottest Riddim (Memories) and Teeniez Hottest Collabo for the same track.

Other winners included Dj Roja & Dj Slick-Stuart for Wickidest Dj, Juicy Juicy by Radio and Weasel as the Flyest video, Nessim, Best hit-maker, Navio Top hood rapper, Ziza Bafana as the dancehall artiste and The Beat as the Best Tv show.
