South African star Zahara for Blankets & Wine this Sunday

wines

Picnic time: The 10th Blankets and Wine is here and on Sunday all roads lead to the Uganda Museum. Darius Mugisha points out what you should expect.
It all started as just another theme party around town. But the concept was different and given its history in Nairobi, it easily acquired the desired clout. As word went around about the event, many outgoing people fancied a personal feel.
Unlike several outdoor events that attract mixed crowds, Blankets and Wine has attracted a seemingly sieved crowd right from day one.
The crowd ranges from university finalists, young corporates, middle-aged corporates and elite business people. However, since it is a picnic kind of arrangement, some young parents find it a must-attend family day out.
The event dictates dressing down in shorts, sandals, trainers, vests, t-shirts, wrappers and most importantly, hats. Revellers carry mats, food baskets, wine and head to the Uganda Museum gardens.

The Tusker-sponsored event has showcased a different trend of entertainment where we have seen different music performers headlining past events. However, for every event, two or more leading Ugandan entertainers have shared the stage. And many times, our entertainers have outshone visiting performers – this is as recent as the last event where Radio & Weasle outshone Kenya’s Eric Wainaina.

The 10 edition
Come Sunday , all roads will lead to the 10th Blankets & Wine at their proverbial home – Uganda Museum Gardens in Kamwokya.
The entertainment menu will be headlined by 23-year-old South African Afro-Soul diva, Bulelwa Mkutukana, aka Zahara.
Zahara is one of South Africa’s most decorated artistes with over eight awards, including “Best Female Artist” and “Album of the Year” from the South African Music Awards.
Zahara’s songs are mostly in her native Zulu and English. Her style has been described as a mixture between styles that have been popularised by Tracy Chapman and India Arie.
Lilian Mbabazi and the Sundowners Band, Solome and new dancehall sensation APass will share the stage with Zahara.
Entry to the event is Shs80,000 and gates will be open at 12pm.
