Radio and Weasel reign supreme at Zzina Awards

Singing duo Radio & Weasel took home four awards in the Zzina Awards that were held on Friday. Their Neera  hit song was named Song of the Year and it also earned them the Rn’B Song of the Year Award. They also took home the Best Music Group accolade, Best Love Song accolade for Helena, and Radio individually won the Songwriter of the Year acco=lade. The duo is currently on tour in Europe and on their behalf Lawrence Labeja, their business development manager, received the awards and thanked fans for the support.
The awards that are largely based on public votes were held at Theatre La Bonita. Many of the established artistes were not in the house during the night when young talent favourably contended for awards in 16 categories. Sponsors and celebrities did the honours of giving out the awards to the different artistes and crew members of the artistes that were not in the house.

Bobi Wine took home the Award for Concert of the year, for his Size Yo gig. The self-styled ghetto president also bagged the award for Inspirational Song of the Year thanks to Byekwaso. Bebe Cool won the award for Stage Performance of the Year.
It was camera, bright lights and action. The Zzina Awards gala night was a lot more than just winners picking accolades from the main stage. The artistes got a flashy welcome as several cameramen took their photographs at the official banner branded with logos of the main sponsors, Galaxy FM, Blue Cube and Club Amnesia. Television stations then took interview snippets from them before they proceeded to the main auditorium of Theatre La Bonita. Midway, fans would stop them to take selfies or exchange courtesies.
“The awards have been hugely successful. It was not about us but the listeners. Those they chose, we awarded. I am glad we paid tribute to AK-47. He is among the young artistes we have given a platform at Galaxy FM. We apologise for those that had to be locked out because they couldn’t fit in the venue,” said Zzina Awards organising committee chairman, Dr Innocent Nahabwe.
At about 8.30pm, the night’s emcee Mosh kicked off the event, no in its second year. Winners at the gala night will be hosted to a beach party on May 3.
