Rewarding the best: The Eastlink Media Awards happened in Mbale last weekend, attracting media houses and personalities from five districts in Bugisu sub-region. The major aim of the awards was to motivate.

More than 15 personalities and media houses received accolades and certificates at the Eastlink Media Awards in Mbale at the weekend.
The event, which was graced by Capital FM’s Jackie Lumbasi, Oulanyah Columbus and several media personalities happened at Mbale Resort Hotel.
Ibrahim Musosi, a presenter and news anchor at Mbale-based Time FM, emerged the best media personality, while Open Gate FM was the best media house in Mbale. The awards, the first ever to happen upcountry, were organised by Eastlink Communications, a PR and marketing firm.
At the event, Lumbasi advised media personalities in the sub-region to understand where their strength is if they wish to flourish in the industry. “Learn to be unique and keep your brand unstoppable when you are on and off air”. David Wabukye, the Eastlink Communications spokesperson, said the awards were organised as a way to motivate media personalities as well as media houses and also appreciate the media in Mbale for the great work.
The best media house was selected from a survey carried out in the five districts of Mbale, Manafwa, Bududa, Sironko and Budaka. “We had only two categories because it is just the beginning,” Wabukye said, adding that next year’s awards would have more categories.
The media lifetime achievers included Richard Welishe of Big FM, Matrida Kihunde and Sophie Opedo of Step FM, Mangoo and Kakungulu SK of Elgon FM and Joseph Wanzusi of New Vision. Wabukye said these awards will be annual and he called upon everyone’s cooperation.

Awarded certificates:

– Pamela of Signal FM
– Patience Mutonyi of Time FM
– Gilbert Wanda of Open Gate FM
– Yusufu Kadama of Masaba FM and Step TV
– Ibrahim Lubega of IUIU
– Micheal Bwayo of Voice of Bugisu
– Derrick Mayeku of Big FM.
