Europe meets China at Toracc

I was hesitant to hang out at Toracc Restaurant. I had not heard of it before. But the hunger that attacked me, as I walked along Malcolm X Road in Kololo, left me with no option but to check out the eatery. I obliged.

Toracc is managed by folk of Chinese descent but its strength lies in its European cuisine. Anyway, away from that, their menu also bears the Chinese cuisine. I forked out Shs28,500 and ordered for steak, french fries and a soda.

The gigantic steak was well done. I still smack my lips when I imagine my teeth digging into it. The French fries were also okay – dry and of palatable size.

On the menu, the most expensive meal is lobster at Shs60,000 and the cheapest is a soup at Shs5,000. The cheapest drink is a soda at Shs2,000 and the priciest is a bottle of red wine at Shs200,000. There is also a buffet which goes for Shs50,000, not inclusive of a drink. Local food is only available on order.

The restaurant is housed in a wooden, single storey structure. Its décor comes off as an effort to create a “home away from home” aura. The frames hanging on the wall carry quotes about family, friends and love. There is also garden space for those who prefer the sight of lush vegetation as they relax.

Toracc’s shortfall is in its parking space. Only seven cars can park within the confines of their gates, the rest park by the roadside. But, according to the management, there is adequate security for these.
Are you adventurous? Yes? Then Toracc is the fresh place for you. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday. It opens at 12pm and closes after the last customer leaves.

The restaurant has the barbecue night which runs from 6 – 8pm all the days when it is open. During this time, patrons are served finger licking meat and Chinese food.
The gardens can serve as venue for parties or meetings. The venue is free if drinks and meals are bought from Toracc. Otherwise the rates are negotiable.
